Installing non-standard/proprietary software

Hallo,

I’m new to Calculate Linux and don’t have any experience neither with CL nor with Gentoo. CL seems very interesting to me.

But there are some commercial software packages I would like to use: VMware Workstation, TurboPrint, TheBrain, BRU Server, XMind and others. Often the vendors offer rpm, deb, tar.gz or sh packages for download.

Is it possible to install these non-standard or proprietary packages from external sources in Calculate Linux or would it break the system and lead to problems when updating libraries and other components?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I don’t know for all but for VMWare, it works.
If rpm are all in one (no dependencies) you can install rpm packages if you install RPM on calculate.
