cant boot Linux 4.14.8-calculate

Im still unable to boot Linux 4.14.8-calculate default kernel, im booting on Linux calculate 4.9.34-calculate. i have installed virtualbox and unable use as the kernel moduals are not loaded on the Linux 4.9.34-calculate kernel even after reboot still not working.

i would like to be able to boot on the default kernel as everything was working fine before the update. my system is fully up to date and still not booting correctly.

here is my grub.cfg https://pastebin.com/Tjp2hVn0

And with the 4.14.9 kernel ?

When the boot block ?

same result locks up when it should be booting

What is your video card? What message does it write on the screen?

video card is: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Carrizo (rev e1)

the message on screen is

loading linux 4.18.8-calculate
loading initial ramdisk

see image http://i64.tinypic.com/2i8vcci.jpg
it starts to load the system but freezes.

Where is update to Calculate plasma 5. I have absolute kernel 4.9.67-calculate. New aviable kernel is 4.14.9

any word on how to solve my problem? i just tested on my laptop and boots the kernel fine its just my PC with amdgpu thats not working.

I update Calculate KDE to new version and new kernel 4.14.9, reboot and system write: attempt to unregistered parameter protocol (number) System write 20 message with diferent number. What is this, I search with google, no explanation.

was chatting on #gentoo about this problem and one of the people there saying the 4.14.9 kernel has problems and has been blacklisted now.

i just checked the gentoo-sources-4.14.9 and seen this

=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.14.9 ~amd64

The following mask changes are necessary to proceed:
(see "package.unmask" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
 # required by =gentoo-sources-4.14.9 (argument)
 # /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
 # Alice Ferrazzi <alicef@gentoo.org> (27 Dec 2017)
 # Masked for removal in 30 days.
 # There are issue on this kernel version due to a heavy changeset.
 # (bug #642268)
=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.14.9

There are issue on this kernel version due to a heavy changeset

if its blacklisted in gentoo why is calculate using it?

So calc devs pushed 4.14.19 when It was stable, most users has download it, but later had been masked due to spotted bugs like (probably) your issue with amdgpu drivers. This is preety bad organizing from gentoo devs side.

Same happens on my laptop when It’s starting/resuming from hibernate but nothing bad happens, I can still use without issue (or I’m not yet spotted it).

yeh that is bad organizing on gentoo side of things there normally pretty on top of things from my experience.
hopefully this issue will be solved fast

Kernel 4.14.8 is not available in Calculate, only 4.14.9 and 4.9.72, on kernel.org new kernel iz 4.14.10 and 4.9.73

my problem started with 14.8 and continued on 14.9, fixed my booting issue by emerging 9.72 and unmerged 14.9 now my system boots normal no longer have to wait for grub to load and selecting advanced boot menu to select working kernel. i hope they have solved the amdgpu issue on 14.10

Very strange situation, kernel 4.9.72 is marked in Calculate (GUI porthole) yellow as unstable. Kernel 4.14.9 is masked due to an error of amdgpu. The situation is that Calculate does not currently have a stable kernel.Returning to kernel 4.9.72 is still a solution because the 4.9.x kernel is LTS kernel.

yeh since the release of calculate Linux 17.12 and it uses 4.14.9 kernel i think the problem will be fixed quick or people like myself with amdgpu wont be able to boot after install, unless there is a backup kernel 4.9.* in advanced option on grub.

I did the downgrade kernel to version 4.9.72.
With kernel 4.14.9 system write: attempt to unregistered parameter protocol (number) System write 20 message with different number. What is this, I search with google, no explanation. I just do not want to watch this weird message every time when I boot Calculate. Other distributions with the same kernel do not have that problem with strange messages.
