I rarely use SMPlayer but When i recently tried to play from a URL the whole thing Crashed
I tried multiple URLs and variations of URLs all Crashed
You tube URLs crashed
Running from Terminal hoping to get some error info it still crashed and gave me no error message at all

It is not a problem for me as i rarely use it but other Calculate users may experience the same issue

I seem to remember Das Gregor on YouTube had a similar problem, the settings in the music player he was using pointed to a backend (such as GStreamer) which was not installed.
